EL MUNDO ZURDO 2018 AT TRINITY UNIVERSITY
Sponsored by The Society for the Study of Gloria E. Anzaldúa (SSGA) and Trinity University
Once again, scholars, artists, writers, performers, community activists whose work is inspired by or centers on Chicana feminist writer Gloria Anzaldúa will gather in San Antonio for a day and a half of transformative dialogue and synergy. We celebrate the 30 year anniversary and the impact of Anzaldúa’s work. Our theme for El Mundo Zurdo 2018 is BORDERLANDS/LA FRONTERA—1987-2017. Wonder what Anzaldúa would make of our contemporary political climate and where her writing would be taking us in these difficult times, we return to her words: “May we do work that matters. Vale la pena, it’s worth the pain.”
Delivering the Plenaries at EMZ 2018 are two members of the Society for the Study of Gloria Anzaldúa (SSGA) who have been involved with us since its inception. Chicana historian, Linda Heidenreich’s opening plenary will set the tone for an engaged and fulfilling experience. Paola Bacchetta’s closing plenary will conclude the conference and point us forward as we continue the struggle and commitment to social justice that is Anzaldúa’s legacy.
